Competitions 2010

International Competition

This competition mirrors the contemporary production of short films and gathers a selection of short films of all genres. The competition was born in the early 90s due to the increasing number of submissions of films with a budget to the previously solitary competition “NoBudget”. Accordingly, the International Competition consists mainly of films created with the aid of funds and extensive technical equipment. There are two prizes in this category: One is awarded by the audience, the other one by a jury.

NoBudget Competition

The NoBudget-film is both the festival’s origin and its laboratory. It creates an environment for radically subjective views, for experimenting, marginal, borderline, demanding, non-commercial and innovative short films. NoBudget puts attitude and the creative process into the limelight. There are two prizes in this category: One is awarded by the audience, the other one by a jury.

German Competition

This competition focuses on new short films from Germany and gives an overview of contemporary subjects as well as aesthetic and technical trends. The films are usually productions by newcomers and universities, thus offering the opportunity of discovering new talents for both the audience and the industry. This category, too, has two prizes: One awarded by the audience and the other one by a jury.

Hamburg Competition

In this competition one production, which has either been made in Hamburg or realized with Hamburgian participation, receives an audience award at the Hamburg Short Film Night.

Three-Minute Quickie Competition

In 1988, this unique competition was invented in Hamburg. This category demands film making under strict conditions. The films submitted may be no longer than three minutes and must adhere to an annually changing themes. In the past some themes have been: “The Hole”, “Mother”, “Fish”, “Money”, “Home” and many more. This year’s topic is “Kitchen”. An audience award awaits the most popular contribution.

Mo&Friese Children's Short Film Festival

The festival has been held annually since 1999 as part of the Hamburg International Short Film Festival (IKFF).
