Vincent Moon – Temporary Show Areas
Saturday | 11.06.2011 | 19.30 | Kantine Meisterwerkstatt
Vincent Moon is a traveller in the name of film and music, and he has a lot of stories to tell: He went through Paris with The Kooks to their waiting fans, he put Arcade Fire into an elevator, he accompanied R.E.M. while they were recording an album and once he was asked to film Tom Jones in a hotel room. He is meeting musicians like Tom Zé or Femi Kuti all over the world, filming them at unusual locations or right in front of the Eiffel Tower, as he did with Phoenix. He filmed the Band Mogwai in the most direct way possible: He stood with them on stage during one of their insanely loud concerts. He spent several days with the band Efterklang on an island for the music film ›An Island‹. He distributed the artists of the Electro-Cumbia record label ZZK Records in a house where he went from room to room with his camera, seamlessly merging their songs into each other. He left the Argentinean Tomi Lebrero alone with his singing audience, thus ending his performance with an acoustic and filmic fade-out. For all these recordings he created temporary concert situations and shows – the so called Take-Away-Shows – which you can access via the Internet all over the world. This way he brings his special vision of a cross-cultural world to the music film genre.
Our new section ›My Evening With...‹ starts with Vincent Moon, who will surprise us with an exclusive selection of his work. Though he will be able to say a lot about each film, he may decide to let the films speak for themselves at times. Just like the concept of the Take-Away-Shows takes the film out of the cinema, the ›My Evening With...‹ screening will take place at our festival centre on Friedensallee itself.
Made possible by the support of Uriz von Oertzen. Thank you!
